Screenings and Health & Wellness Services

Vision Screenings: Vision screenings are conducted by the Health Services staff for students in KG, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades. Students who have been prescribed glasses are not screened. Vision screening does not take the place of a complete eye exam. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends all children receive a complete medical eye exam prior to school enrollment and every 1-2 years after age five.

Hearing Screenings: Hearing screenings are conducted by the Health Services staff for students in Kindergarten. A hearing screening does not take the place of a complete hearing evaluation. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's (ASHA) guidelines state that healthy individuals, who are not experiencing any noticeable hearing loss, should have their hearing tested every three to five years. Contact the school office to request a consultation with the Speech-Language Pathologist if you have a concern regarding your child’s hearing.

Delta Dental: Delta Dental of Idaho provides a biennial mobile dental clinic for KG, 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 8th graders. These clinics, performed by professional hygienists, include fluoride varnish and dental sealants. A permission form is required to access this service.

SWDH Dental Program: A fluoride varnish program is provided for students in Kindergarten. A dental hygienist from the Southwest District Health Department (SWDH) visits elementary schools annually. A permission form is required to access this service.

Growth and Development Education: Growth and development education can be exciting and unique, and as the parent or guardian, you are in the best position to help your child through puberty (Idaho § 33-1608). Parents are encouraged to review resources that will best meet their preferences for education.
